42 killed in DR Congo protests: rights federation
Kinshasa (AFP) - Forty-two people have been killed in the Democratic
Republic of Congo in protests against legislation that would extend
President Joseph Kabila's rule, the International Federation for Human
Rights said Thursday.
The federation said the reaction of the security forces to the demonstrations this week had been "totally excessive and disproportionate". The government says 11 people have been killed including a policeman and 10 people it described as "looters".
