Gyan brothers escape death at Ada
It was a weekend to forget as Black
Stars captain Asamoah Gyan and his elder brother, Baffour, yesterday cheated
death when one of Ghana’s promising young musicians, Theophilus Tagoe,
popularly known as Castro and an unnamed lady friend drowned at an area close
to the Ada estuary.
The two brothers, who were with
their close pal Castro, Samuel Anim Addo (Asamoah’s business manager) and other
female friends, reportedly left Accra for Ada at the weekend where they booked
Aqua Safari for two days.
Sources say the group later moved to
another holiday resort near the Ada estuary where the Hiplife artiste and a
lady friend hired a jet ski and began to cruise, while Asamoah and the friend
played volleyball at a nearby court.
While cruising, eyewitnesses
narrated, Castro’s lady friend who was behind the musician, fell into the
lagoon and in an attempt to rescue her, both of them drowned.
Castro, a childhood friend of the
Stars captain, was very instrumental in shaping the burgeoning music career of
the football star. The celebrity duo are credited with award-winning tracks
“African Girls” in which the Al Ain striker rapped and “Odo Pa”, which won the
Highlife Song of the Year at the 2014 Vodafone Ghana Music Awards
At a farewell dinner hosted by
President John Mahama at the Banquet Hall of the State House ahead of the
national team’s departure for the World Cup in Brazil last month, Gyan joined
castro to perform ‘Odo Pa’. The duo had previously performed on stage at many
musical shows in Ghana and the UK which further bolstered Gyan’s star appeal.
