I rejected 25,000 Euros bribe - Kwasi Appiah
Ghana coach Kwesi Appiah has
revealed that he rejected €25,000 from a man acting on behalf of a player
to induce him to invite the footballer for the World Cup.
Appiah added vowed that he would not
tarnish his reputation by accepting bribes, adding that players are invited to
the Black Stars solely on merit.
“The man brought the money but I
refused to take because I’m a professional and I want to protect the coaching
association’s image,” Appiah told Accra-based Montie FM.
“People keep on making such
allegations against us that we always take money from players before taking
them to tournaments but is never true. We select players base on performances
and commitment at training.”
Appiah later told Metro FM: “If
I say that the players have not attempted to bribe me before, then I will be
lying. If only you are ready to take, they will pay.
“A player brought an amount of
25,000 Euros, but I made him aware that when I even called him for the national
team, he didn’t give me anything, so why this time and what should I use it for
and I refused it.
“The players are very canny, they
look at so many things along the line and use them to make their judgment about
the sort of coach you are.”
